My Sept. 11 baby

Since the boys birthday is on Thursday I wanted to share the story of how he became a September 11th baby. I loved my doctor because he never had a problem inducing me(or any of my friends for that matter). He was all for convience as long as the baby was healthy, etc. I was nearing my due date and my mom went to the last appointment with me. On the way there I told her that I was afraid he would want to induce me on Sept. 11 and that I did NOT want that. She agreed and off we went.

As soon as I was in the room the nurse came up and said " Ok..he is inducing you on the 11th". I felt sick. I knew that was going to happen. I asked if there was any other day I could move it to and she said they were booked up on their 2 allowed inductions a day for that whole week. I would have to wait another week. Now I must admit that I hate being pregnant. OK...maybe hate isn't a strong enough word. With the boy my feet were so swollen I could barely walk and I had some other problems too. So reluctantly ( and selfishly) I agreed. That did not sit well with my mom. Little did we know at the time that his birth date would save his life.

When he was born I remember the nurse telling the doctor that the cord had been wrapped around his neck because they had to record it on his chart so they could give him proper care if need be. I was pretty groggy at the time but I remember looking at the nurse and asking her something about it. She told me that it was such a blessing I was induced because if he hadn't been born that day he might have gotten more tangled and suffered serious damage or worse. His birth date possibly saved his life.

I can no longer think of September 11 as just a day of mourning. That day holds a special place in my heart because of my son. The other day when I was filling a prescription for him the pharmacist asked for his birthday and then said.." Oh I feel so sorry for people with that birthday." I politely informed her that it may have saved his life and she didn't say anything else after that. The boys middle name is Alexander and the reason we choose that is because of the meaning. Different places will tell different meanings but one of the things we read said it meant "protector". Could that have been more perfect? I know in my heart and soul that my son is going to grow up and do amazing things. He will make this world a better place.

So this September 11th I will thank God for the precious blessing of my baby boy. I will also say a prayer for all of those affected in 9-11. I will never forget the significance of that day. Either one of them.

What a special story, he is a very lucky little boy! I can still remember 9/11 like it was just yesterday, it was almost exactly 3 months before I had Kaylie and I remember just sitting in front of the TV all day long watching the news coverage.
