Space Saving Techniques Wk. 2

I am going to finish up ideas for the kitchen since I started it last week. Some of these I have tried before and some I haven't.

1. Having my dish drying rack has been a lifesaver to me. We have limited shelf space in our kitchen and we have a LOT of sippy cups and children's dishes. I just keep bottles and sippy cups in the drying rack so they are available right away when I need them and it keeps our cabinets from overflowing and stuff falling on us when we open them.

2. Spices can take up a lot of room. You can buy metal containers with magnets on the back and put your spices in those on the fridge.

3. Stack pots and other dishes inside of each other to save cabinet space.

4. Use the wall. Hang oven mitts, small measuring spoons, etc. to clear more drawer space.

5. Make copies of your favorite recipes and then put them into 1 big binder. This will give you a lot of space if you have tons of cookbooks but only use a few recipes from each.

6. Sort through your cabinets every couple of months. Decide what you can part with. Last time I did this I found I had 5 skillets. Obviously I didn't need that many so I kept only the 3 I use on a regular basis.

7. If you have space for a bakers rack I suggest getting one. You can put anything you need to on it for display and a lot of them have drawers for stashing stuff(Mine has 4 small drawers).

8. I love having a dry erase board on my fridge for writing out my menu plan. Takes up no space since it is on the fridge.

9. Get a peg board and put it on the pantry door. Stick your take-out menus, business cards and any other important info you need on it. ( This has been a lifesaver for me.)

10. If you have a ton of grocery bags laying around like I did you can get a grocery bag holder at Wal-Mart for $3. The Container Store also sells some that are metal I think.

Just a few ideas to get you motivated. If you have any you would like to share I would love to hear about them:) Have a great day everyone!
